Cape Town Tens

The eLan SA Rugby Legends made it two in row after winning the Legends & Veterans section of the Castle Cape Town Tens Tournament hosted by the Hamilton Sea Point Rugby Club on the 6th and 7th February. The SA Legends who won the inaugural tournament in the Vets section last year had the privilege of playing the first game of rugby on the newly completed (Soccer World Cup) delete Cape Town Stadium in Green Point when they played and comprehensively beat the International Legends XV 29-5 live on Super Sport.

What made the victory that more satisfying was the strength of the overseas side which included names like Australians Tim Horan who captained the side, Damian Smith, Jeremy Paul and Pat Howard together with former All Black centre and skipper Tana Umaga as well as Irishman Eric Miller who played for the 1997 British Lions to name but a few.

The eLan SA Rugby Legends went on to win all their games beating the Hammies Dynamiters and the Maritzburg Varsity Numzans on the Saturday before meeting the International XV in the curtain raiser to the Stormers vs Boland Cavaliers warm up Super 14 friendly at the Cape Town Stadium. On Sunday they disposed of the Oval Oaks XV, False Bay Crocks and then went on to win the Legends & Veterans Section beating the Hammies Dynamiters again but this time in the final.

The eLan SA Rugby Legends even had time during their busy schedule to host a clinic for 150 children in conjunction with the JAG Foundation and the City of Cape Town and it was great to see the overseas international players also helping out, which made the event even that more special.

The SA Rugby Legends Association would like to thank Bobby Skinstad, Robbie Fleck and Ron Rutland together with all their helpers and members of the Hamilton’s organizing committee for another great weekend of rugby camaraderie - it was a job well done!
