Spine Road Legacy Park Having been in operation for some six years the South African Rugby Legends Association (SARLA), a Section 21 Company with NPO status, has achieved some quite remarkable milestones in the development of sporting facilities in the underprivileged communities of this country. The organization, The SA Rugby Legends Association, was founded in 2002 by a group of former Springbok and Provincial Rugby Players. who later formed a charitable trust with the intention to raise funds for the development of the game at grass roots level - SO PROVIDING A VEHICLE FOR PLAYERS TO PUT SOMETHING BACK INTO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME. So it came to be that under the banner of SARLA the Legends launched a separate trust, The SA Legends Legacy Park Trust (SALLPT), thus creating an opportunity for all sporting codes to benefit with the facilities that they build for the disadvantaged communities. With Corporates working closely with various communities it certainly goes a long way in helping make the project sustainable and with all sporting codes now being able to benefit with skills development during the day and following on into the evening it has truly enhanced the growth and development of many disadvantaged communities. In simple terms sport is being used as the catalyst to draw people together and teach them to come together and grow and hopefully enrich their communities. The opening of the Spine Road Legacy Park in Mitchell’s Plain on the 20th October 2009 is yet another great milestone for the eLan SA Rugby Legends Association and with 300 guests expected including representatives from local and provincial government together with members of the business world and the eLan SA Rugby Legends, the launch of yet another Legacy Park looks set to add yet(remove) another great achievement for these sporting greats of South Africa. The events start at 15.30 with a Legends_Cup/Gazelles game followed by a coaching clinic at 16.30 with Springbok Coach Peter de Villiers and Springbok selector Ian McIntosh. At 17.30 there will be the cutting of the ribbon and cocktail party with a panel discussion - indeed a wonderful way to conclude yet another successful project by the Legends.
