THE LEGENDS "Adopt a Schools" PROGRAM

Over the last 3 years we have held clinics at many traditional rugby playing schools in the Urban areas and in talking to the headmasters, directors of rugby and coaches we have realized that all parties want to make a difference in SA and help develop the game of rugby that we are passionate about. It was intentional from a SARLA perspective to hold these clinics at these traditional schools rather than in a township as we wanted all the kids from the disadvantaged schools who we bussed or taxied in to experience the ethos at a rugby playing environment rather than a soccer environment, our initial objective was for these traditional schools to adopt players of talent and give them bursaries etc, however we soon learnt that there was a bigger picture and more sustainable as well as easier to monitor and control.

We have identified approx 100 of the top traditional schools who wish to be part of this Urban program and offer them assistance thru exposure via:
¤ Provincial player coaching assistance
¤ Provincial Union development coaching assistance
¤ SARLA coaching assistance
¤ Equipment exposure thru Union and SARLA sponsors etc
¤ Speakers at their prize giving and events
¤ Free scholar tickets for kids and free stand tickets for coaches

In return we would expect these traditional schools to identify approx 4 disadvantaged schools in their community or area and offer them:
¤ Coaching with SARLA and provincial players
¤ Ongoing coaching with the rugby players in these schools (ie 8 x Yr)
¤ Ongoing coaching with the coaches (ie 8 x Yr)
¤ Second hand equipment and kit that the school and kids are not using.
¤ Educational books and equipment that the school and kids are not using
¤ Identify talent and offer the kids bursaries
