Absa Currie Cup Celebration

For all who couldn’t make it to the Riverside Sports Club on Friday night, 24th October, for our pre-final party, don’t fret because although you missed a festive occasion, plenty of elbows were bent and glasses raised on your behalf! With a close final anticipated there was a fair amount of debate and joshing and the local lads couldn’t have been as blasé as they might have wished, especially with plenty of tall Northern Transvaal timber ‘in die omtes’ – for instance the formidable Cronje clan including Legends lock Werner, Springbok brother Geo, uncles Frans and Dawie and dad Org.. Thank goodness they’re about as genial a bunch of giants as you could hope to meet!

It was great to see so many past heroes. Not only the Legends- Ian Macintosh, Pieter Muller, Werner Cronje, Frikkie du Plooy and Andile Nyembezi and Mark Andrews - but also the aforementioned Cronje family plus Garvz and Wayne Fyvie, Gerhard Harding, Bruce Barritt, Craig Macintosh and Evert van Rooyen representing the forwards with Craig Jamieson, Rod Gould, Don Robb and Peter Edmunds among the backline.

The evening carried on in to the night with the multi-talented rugby scribe turned DJ, Mike Greenaway, providing us with some top tunes.
